A Note From Our Executive Director, Terri Thomas
Blessed!!! The VRC is overflowing with community blessings! Thanks Up and Coming, and the community for honoring us as 2019 BEST of Fayetteville, Community Project. Who knew? We didn't even know we were in the running, but it's good to know that the community believes in our mission and we are getting the word out!! We are doing something right. As we continue to get settled in our new space, so many items have come in. We received a couch, TV, and CCTV (a device for people with low vision) to read materials. We appreciate the numerous visits to see our new digs. We cannot thank the community enough!! We still have some items that are needed that are listed on our webpage so if your heart leads you to send them on over to 2736 Cedar Creek Rd. (all items are tax-deductible, and we will use them to the fullest). If you have a business, please consider donating items for our Game of Chance Raffle for our 7th Annual "Out of Sight" Night at the Park at the Segra Stadium Downtown on September 21st. No silent auction, you take a chance by purchasing a VRC chip to win some fantastic items donated by our community partners. Space is limited to 250 this year, so get your tickets early; it is SURE to be a sell-out. Thanks, Friends of the Vision Resource Center Endowment and The Pay It Forward Endowment for Vision Impaired Youth of Cumberland Community Foundation, and the many donors that have blessed the VRC with wishlist items (Cara Spencer, Alicia and James Cope, and Sonya Edmonds). Thanks, Massey Hill Lions Club for sponsoring eighteen of our adults with visual impairments to attend Camp Dogwood in Sherrills Ford, NC for a week. We appreciate ALL our donors and sponsors for their continuous support. Our kids continued programming this month with bowling, Greg's Pottery and will sum up the summer with Ocean Cure surf camp and a combination summer cookout with the adults. Monica Turner, our latest member to the VRC Team, has done a remarkable job getting our kids out and moving this summer.
