What an amazing way to end our summer with our annual 'Youth Surf Camp' with the OceanCure Foundation. Youth had an amazing day in the sun catching some waves 🏄🏼♂️
Nothing like a trip to the NC State Farmer's Market to get some fresh produce. So many choices! Lunch at Big Ed's was a great way to end our time in Raleigh!
Attending a City Council meeting for voices to be heard about the necessity for FastTrac services to be extended to accommodate and help keep our blind/visually impaired safe. Thanks to all who came out and showed their support.
Our Assistive Technology Day provided demonstrations of the latest low vision aids available. Several of our blind and visually impaired members had the opportunity to test out devices to aid with their limited sight levels.
Another amazing night at Cypress Bend Winery! Nothing like letting your hair down and dancing the night away on Jazzy Fridays!
End-of-Summer Cookout! We are so thankful to our open house guests we now have a grill for people. Kudos goes to Steve Goodson who helped the VRC select and pick up the grill, put it together, borrowed the tanks from Kiwanis Club of Cape Fear (thank you Bill Drewry and Kiwanis) and cooked for over 50 people. It may be time to start packing up the sunscreen and bathing suits, but we found time to fire up the grill and have a cookout! Shout out to all our volunteers!
Touring the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens and a mosaic art project....what a relaxing way to end the week!
Thanks to Giovanna Gordon for sharing her story and expression of gratitude at United Way of Cumberland County's kickoff luncheon. All of us at the Vision Resource Center appreciate you!
Thanks to Michael Lehmann and the volunteers at Publix! We enjoyed our tour and tasty samples!

A Note From Our Executive Director, Terri Thomas
Join us for our 7th Annual Out of Sight Dining, this year, its a Night at the Park, Segra Stadium, home of our Fayetteville Woodpeckers!
What will you expect that night? Food, Fun, music by Guy Unger band and DJ "Q", awareness and more FUN !! Did I say FUN ?
Vendors will be on hand for the Fun. Devices used by people with vision loss will be available for our guests to try with simulation glasses and blindfolds. The" limited vision" experience is not mandatory but is an EXPERIENCE. Hollywood Java will be there with some tasty coffee samples for you to try with limited vision.
The VRC Game of Chance will take the place of the silent auction this year. A game of chance raffle ticket sells for $10.00. Each guest that purchases a ticket will have the opportunity to win raffle items/packages (from lowest to highest value). There will be several chances to win some pretty AWESOME stuff, and help the VRC raise $10,000 for our youth program ages birth to thirteen and family support. Space is limited this year, and tickets are moving fast!
September will also bring some new programming, Yoga, and Relaxation with Eva. We are getting our gym-ready now for the class, many thanks to LCI, United Way of Cumberland County, and Cumberland Community Foundation for helping us to enhance the lives of the visually impaired.
More wish-list items purchased thanks to Gayle Araki, Minnie Varnado, some anonymous angels for helping to continue making the VRC home.
Until next time,
Thankful and humbled by all our blessings,
Terri Thomas
