The Vision Resource Center began in 1936 as the Cumberland County Association of the Blind, serving the needs of this unique population in conjunction with the Cumberland County Department of Social Services. Today we continue enhancing the lives of adults and children, living in the Cape Fear Region with visual impairment by advocating for their needs, identifying and sharing information about community resources, providing education, skill development, and socialization opportunitiesI'm a paragraph.

  • 1.3 million people who are blind in this country

  • 93,600 blind school age children

  • 787,691 seniors aged 65 and older are blind and according to projections, these numbers will increase to 1.6 million by 2015 and 2.4 million by 2030

  • Only 1% of the blind population is born without sight. The vast majority of blind people lose their vision later in life due to macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetes. There are treatments to delay these conditions, but there are no cures.

The “Out of Sight” Blindfolded Dining Event started because of a need to help, to advocate and to support the blind and visually impaired in our community through their life journey sightless.  We have come a long way, but we still need your support. Your generous sponsorship will help us extend our MISSION to enhance the quality of life for individuals who are blind and visually impaired.
